Different Ways To Clean Carpeting

When it comes to wall-to-wall carpeting, getting it clean can be one of the biggest challenges there is. Because of the size of the job, the amount of furniture you have to move, the irregularity of the cleaning, and all the dirt that gets stomped deep in the fibers, any method of cleaning a carpet is going to be quite an undertaking. Yet homeowners are also asked to choose between a multitude of different carpet cleaning methods, all of which have their own advantages and disadvantages, despite what anybody tells you. Here’s a description of some of the most popular carpet cleaning methods:

Shampoo

Shampoo basically works by using a very frothy, stable foam to release dirt from the fibers of your carpet. The foam pulls the fibers apart and agitates them like you would shake a rug over a balcony. Once the foam dissolves, the residue is designed to bond with the dirt that is released and it is vacuumed up. Unfortunately, shampoo residue is often very resinous and adheres to the fibers as much as it does to the dirt, so the deepest dirt cannot be vacuumed up. The agitation needed to incorporate the foam into your carpet can also damage many fibers.

Dry Carpet Cleaning

Dry Carpet Cleaning

This method is actually a bit of a misnomer because a small of amount of moisture is used to incorporate the cleaning chemicals into the carpet. This “dry” detergent offers the advantage of more comprehensive dirt removal, as well as a shorter time period for the entire cleaning process. However, the chemicals used in this process are harsh and can produce offensive odors for some time after the cleaning.

Steam Cleaning

Most carpet cleaning professionals will endorse steam cleaning as the most thorough and safe way to clean your carpet. However, it can be more time-consuming, as some carpets can take up to 24 hours to dry completely after treatment. Steam cleaning uses a heat-activated detergent to dissolve dirt, which is then vacuumed from the carpet when it has dried.

As you can see, carpet cleaning is a complicated problem with even more complicated solutions. It all depends on the kind of stains or mess you’re dealing with, the material your carpet is made out of, and your budget at time frame. That’s why you need an expert cleaning service to make sure the job is taken care of properly.
